Patna (PNBE): East Central Railway (ECR) GM Madhuresh Kumar inaugurated a bacteria free modular operation theatre (OT) in the railways super specialty hospital at Karbigahiya end of Patna Junction on Monday evening. This is the first of its kind in Indian Railways. Director General (health), Railway Board, Dr P S Prasad was also present on the occasion.
Kumar said the new facility would be a boon for the railway employees of all five divisions under the ECR. It is more useful for the patients undergoing heart and advanced orthopedic surgeries, he said, adding that the entire OT is centrally air conditioned.
The GM said railways is committed to providing better medical facilities to its employees and their dependents. The super specialty hospital at Karbigahiya end has been set up with an aim to cater to the needs of the patients suffering from heart and nephrology problems. Both indoor and outdoor facilities are now available at this hospital, he said.
According to Dr Prasad, the modular OT will be useful in the heart transplant surgery also. The OT is not only well equipped, its walls have anti-bacteria painting. The spacious OT has steel floor provision as well to ensure that it remains bacteria free and highly hygienic, he said.
According to ECR CPRO Amitabh Prabhakar, the modular OT is fitted with cameras and monitoring equipment so that a live surgery could be displayed. Besides, the OT is provided with central gas pipeline connection. In fact, the ICU (intensive care unit) and emergency wards have been provided with central gas pipeline connections to benefit indoor patients in emergency, he said.
