MADURAI: Shri. R.K. Kulshrestha, General Manager, Southern Railway had conducted meeting today (27.01.2018) at Madurai, with Hon’ble Members of Parliament whose constituencies falls in Madurai and Tiruchchirappalli Railway Divisions. Ms. Neenu Ittyerah, Divisional Railway Manager, Madurai Division, Shri. Uday Kumar Reddy, Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchchirappalli Division, Principal Heads of Departments of Southern Railway participated in the meeting.
The General Manager appraised the Hon’ble MPs of several important works completed by Madurai and Tiruchchirappalli divisions, such as Passenger amenity works, Introduction of new train services, Extension of trains and Additional stoppages provided. The General Manager also said the lift at Dindigul and Madurai alongwith Foot over Bridges, new waiting halls at Rameswaram and additional platform shelter at Tuticorin, Kovilpatti, Tirunelveli and improvement at Punalur, Kottarakara and Kundara will soon be provided. Work has also been proposed for Foot over bridge at Avaneeswaram and extension of platform on the Quilon–Punalur section to 18 bogies.
The Hon’ble MP from Kollam Shri N.K. Premachandran, reiterated the need to complete the Gauge conversion work between Edaman and New Aryankavu and reintroduce trains which was used to run prior to Gauge conversion, over this section. Railway General Manager R. K. Kulshreshtha has informed N.K. Premachandran, MP, that the Punalur-Shencottah railway line will be commissioned and operational before March 31.
New train services through the section are expected to commence soon afterwards. The delay in construction works in the Thiruvananthapuram division will be evaluated. Fund will be issued for the Kollam second terminal, lift and escalator services, and the construction will be completed in a time-bound manner. Various stations in the Kollam-Shencottah section will be equipped with the necessary amenities for passengers. The construction of circulating area and foot overbridge at the Kundara station will commence soon. The Madurai Divisional Railway Manager has been instructed to install television sets in the Kundara station.
The Hon’ble MP from Madurai Shri R. Gopalakrishnan, stressed the need for providing necessary facilities at Koodal Nagar and stoppage of Pandian Express at Koodal Nagar station.
The Hon’ble MP of Ramanathapuram Shri A. Anwhar Raajhaa, requested the Railways to provide stoppage of Ayodhya Express at Ramanathapuram. He also wanted the Railways to run additional trains from Rameswaram, especially between Coimbatore and Rameswaram.
The Hon’ble MP Shri PR. Senthilnathan wanted to be updated on the progress of new line project within his constituency and requested for frequency of Silambu Express to be increased.
The Hon’ble MP from Pollachi Shri C. Mahendran raised the issue of slow progress in the construction of Road Over Bridge and wanted the Railways to speed up this work. He also wanted the better facilities at Udumalaipet as well as stoppage of Amirtha Express at the station.
The Hon’ble MP from Theni Shri R. Parthiban urged the Railway to speed up the new survey for the new line between Dindigul and Sabarimala.
The Hon’ble MP, Tenkasi Smt. M. Vasanthi, welcomed the commitment of the Railways for completion of Gauge conversion work on Sengottai-Punalur section. She also urged the Railways to run a day express train between Sengottah and Coimbatore and improve the platforms at Srivilliputhur and Pamba koil Shandy.
The Hon’ble Rajya Sabha MP Vijila Sathyananth, wanted speeding up of trains and introduction of new train from Ramewaram to Coimbatore.
The GM in response to the request of Hon’ble MPs stated that with the commissioning of double line on the Madurai-Maniyachi-Tuticorin and Maniyachi-Nagecoil-Kanniyakumar-Tirivananthapuram section would meet several of the unmet demands for additional trains for the southern region.
The GM further assured in response to the demands put forth by the Hon’ble MPs that the above demands would be looked into and speeded up.

Hon’ble MP offered to Provide Battery Operated Car worth Rs.12 lakhs from MPLAD fund.
He requested Escalator facility at Thanjavur station.
Escalator at Thanjavur has been sanctioned and work will be completed early.
- Shri R. Radhakrishnan, MP/Puducherry
Requested to extension of Circar express upto Puducherry.
Railway assured that this will be extended upto Puducherry after completion of two crossing stations between Villupuram and Puducherry.
- Shri R.K. Bharathi Mohan: MP/Mayiladuthurai
Requested the stoppage of train Antyodaya express at MV which was assured to be recommended to Railway Board.
Lieu of diversion of Mannai express, alternative train were requested. It was also informed that of 2 trains between Tambaram – Sencottai and Tambaram – Tirunelveli Antyodaya express, which will have full Unreserved coaches and this will help the poor people and unreserved passengers.
Restoration of train No. 16233/34 MV-TPJ express trains was requested. This will be restored from Feb,.2018.
Shri Dr. Gopal, MP/Nagapattinam:
Requested speedy completion of gauge conversion work between Tiruvarur and Karaikudi section. It was assured that this gauge conversion will be completed before by 2018.
PASSENGER AMENITIES PROVIDED IN TPJ DIVISION;
- Emergency Medical Centres are available at 6 stations in Trichy Division.
- Battery Operated Car and wheel chair facility available at Trichy and Nagapattinam.
- Escalator facility is available at Trichy junction. This facility will also be made available at Thanjavur (2 Nos.) Puducherry (2 Nos.) and Trichy (1 additional No.).
- Ola cabs facility is provided at Trichy, Thanjaur, Srirangam stations.
- The existing parking areas in a stations will be expanded. And 18 stations were identified for providing parking facility and will be arranged soon.
- Automatic Ticket Vending Machines were available in 13 stations.
- Free Highspeed Rail Wifi facility is provided at Trichy, Thanjavur & Kumbakonam stations.
- Women Facilitation Centre at Trichy and Mother Feeding Centre at Trichy and Villupuram are functioning.
- Aesthetic beautification with traditional art also provided at Ponmalai, Karaikal and Nagapattinam stations.
