GM/SCR commends Railway Doctor for Exemplary Services during a derailment

SECUNDERABAD: A newly inducted Doctor into Railway service, proved her commitment to serve with duty mindedness. Dr B.Rajitha, Additional Divisional Medical Officer/Parli, Secunderabad Division who joined Railways less than a month back rose to the task during the derailment of Train no.57550 Aurangabad – Hyderabad Passenger near Bhalki in Karnataka State on 21st April, 2017. She personally checked for the well being of the passengers in the affected train and ensured correct status of the derailed train to Headquarters promptly.

Acknowledging the exemplary service rendered by the Doctor, Shri Vinod Kumar Yadav, General Manager, SCR presented a Special Appreciation Certificate to Dr B.Rajitha in recognition of the way she handled her duties during a crisis situation. Dr K.H.K.Dora, Chief Medical Director, SCR was also present.

The Restoration work concerning the derailment of Engine and three Coaches of Train No. 57550 Aurangabad – Hyderabad Passenger in Karnataka State between Kalgupur and Bhalki Railway Stations on Parli-Vikarabad section of Secunderabad Division at around 01.50 hrs on 21st April, 2017 was undertaken on a war footing for train services to resume.  Vinod Kumar Yadav, General Manager, South Central Railway rushed to the spot from Secunderabad to supervise and monitor the restoration works, relief through medical services to the injured etc, and clearances by the Police authorities.

The Engine and three Coaches of Train No. 57550 Aurangabad – Hyderabad Passenger derailed in Karnataka State between Kalgupur and Bhalki Railway Stations on Parli-Vikarabad section of Secunderabad Division at around 01.50 hrs of 21st April, 2017However, all the passengers travelling in the train were safe.

Immediately on receipt of information, Shri Vinod Kumar Yadav, General Manager, South Central Railway rushed to the spot from Secunderabad to monitor relief measures and supervise the restoration work for bringing back normalcy to train operations at the earliest. The General Manager was accompanied by other Senior Officials from Headquarters and Secunderabad Division.

Over 500 passengers travelling by the train were evacuated to Kalgupur, from where special buses were arranged to transport them to Bidar. Their further travel towards Hyderabad was arranged by the Bidar- Hyderabad Intercity Express. Catering arrangements were made to serve the needs of stranded passengers. Railway Protection Force was deputed to take care of the security of passengers and their baggage, while other staff took care of their comfort and convenience. Help line numbers were immediately activated at major Railway stations including Hyderabad, Aurangabad, Parli, Bidar, Bhalki and Vikarabad to communicate Information regarding the derailment and Train movements etc., to the public.

At the spot of derailment, the Switch Expansion Joint, Plate screws, Nuts and brackets of the track were found in open condition without any damage mark. Acting upon the suspected conditions at the spot. the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the State Police i.e., Karnataka Police personnel who reached the site, took up investigation with the help of Dog squads. After clearance from the Police, restoration work will be finished on war footing to bring train services in the section back to normal.

In the wake of the derailment, the General Manager, SCR has ordered for a high level Inquiry by setting up a committee comprising of Chief Transportation Manager/General, Chief Motive Power Engineer/Diesel, Chief Safety Officer, Chief Security Commissioner and Chief Track Engineer, SCR which will investigate the incident and submit its report.

Vinod Kumar Yadav undertook a review of Safety, Punctuality and cleanliness of the Trains and Stations on the Zone. All the Divisional Railway Managers of 6 Divisions on South Central Railway viz., Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntur, Guntakal and Nanded attended the  review meeting  through video conference held today i.e., 24th April, 2017 at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad.

Vinod Kumar Yadav, General Manager advised that priority shall be accorded to safety in train operations and at the same time punctuality should also be maintained. All measures have to be taken to avoid signal failures and top priority may be given to attend the signal failures immediately.  Advised all the DRMs to come with new ideas to improve the Safety, Punctuality and Cleanliness to meet the next FY targets.

Punctuality of trains has to be given utmost importance and all efforts should be made to run trains on time. He also reviewed the punctuality position of express and passenger services on the Zone and at Divisional level. He suggested that the punctuality of the Mail Express train not to be deteriorated. The General Manager advised all the DRMs that, the Speed restrictions in zone may be reviewed intensively and make suitable plans to evacuate the feasible speed restrictions, which can improve the punctuality of the trains.

Vinod Kumar Yadav stressed upon the on board house keeping services (OBHS) and cleanliness of the station and instructed all the DRMs and Senior officials to conduct regular surprise checks on cleanliness with a focus on coach cleaning activities like cleanliness of the toilets, missing fittings and Rodents and Insects control etc.
