GM/SCR inaugurates ‘Rail Exhibition’, interacts with Media to brief on SCR’s Performance

Secunderabad (SC): Shri P.K.Srivastava, General Manager, SCR inaugurated the “Rail Exhibition” today i.e., 10th April, 2015 at Secunderabad Railway Station (Bhoiguda Side). The Exhibition is being held to coincide with the 60th Railway Week Celebrations of Indian Railways from 10th till 16th April, 2015, in  commemoration of the first train run on Indian soil on 16th April, 1853 from Boribunder to Thane.

The Exhibition showcases glimpses of the journey of Indian Railways from the Vintage to the Latest. Various Pavilions are set up to offer the viewers, a look on the vintage era and origin of the Railway system in SCR’s jurisdiction, the Passenger Amenities / Facilities available, innovations and technological advancements, Safety standards, security measures and gadgets in use, welfare measures, tourism on the Zone and the Services dispensed by Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation etc., An Audio Visual section is also set up to focus on public awareness issues and publicity campaigns relevant to rail user needs. The Rail Exhibition will be open till 16th April, 2015 from 08.00 am to 08.00 pm (with a lunch break between 01.00 pm to 02.00 pm).

Later, Shri P.K.Srivastava held an interaction with the Media and highlighted SCR’s Performance for the year 2014-15. The apportioned earnings has shown a robust growth of 19% in the last financial year compared to previous fiscal (2013-14). In Freight segment the loading has shown a remarkable growth of 9 % with 116.8 million tonnes, with an additional loading of 9.6 million tonnes as compared to 2013-14. The quantum jumps in freight loading is because of rationalisation of freight movement and de-bottle necking the constraints in freight handling.

In addition, loading of Coal at Singareni Collieries and Port based loading helped for incremental freight loading on the Zone. A note worthy feature is that though there is a drop in suburban passenger traffic by -0.9% on Indian Railways, on SCR there is a growth of 3%. The Operating ratio, the bench mark of financial health has been pegged at a healthy 76.5 % , which is lowest in the last five years.

The General Manager also stated that SCR’s performance has earned appreciation from the Railway Ministry and credited the same to the commitment of workforce of the Zone.
