Jamshedpur: The Tatanagar railway station, which boasts of being the model station of the South Eastern Railway (SER) zone, will have two escalators and two elevators soon.

Of the two proposed escalators, one will provide access to platform numbers 2 and 3 while the other will link platform numbers 4 and 5. The elevators will be installed at platform number 1 and in between platforms 4 and 5.

Tatanagar station, which is the second busiest station of the SER zone after Howrah, will also have an air-conditioned rest room for the VIP commuters. “All three, VIP rest rooms, escalators and elevators will come up soon,” said in charge General Manager SER zone G.C.Agarwal on Friday.

The GM, who visited the Tatanagar railway station on Friday, said the much-awaited inauguration of the second entrance gate to the Tatanagar railway station will take place anytime during the 2013 calendar year.

Interestingly, the second entry gate, aimed at easing the commuter chaos at the lone entry at the main entrance of the station, was tentatively scheduled for inauguration by the then GM A K Verma on June 15 this year. But it was cancelled in the last hour as encroachment issues relating to the entry gate couldn’t be settled in time.

The incumbent GM refrained from making big announcements related to the Chakradharpur division of the SER zone.

Earlier in the day, Agarwal held a meeting with the senior rail officials of the division and assessed the progress of the ongoing infrastructure works.

He instructed the concerned officials to pace up the frequency of the ongoing infrastructure work and also directed them to introduce a complaint book at each ticket booking office counter, enquiry room and travelling passengers’ rest room to receive remarks/suggestions from the commuters regarding the quality of the rail service.
