GRP arrests Mobile Snachers before receiving a call from Complainant

Thumbnails.aspxGRP at Mahim station on Monday morning caught two mobile snatchers with five stolen mobile phones, minutes before they received a call from a victim of one of the recovered phones.

Abdul Razaq Mohammed Hussain (22), a resident of Santacruz, and his accomplice Abdullah Abdul Qayum Khan (19), a resident of Mira Road, were loitering around at the station when a GRP team of two Assistant  Sub-Inspectors and four police constables were patrolling the area. Suspecting the duo to be upto something, the team checked the two and found them with five mobile phones worth Rs.30,000.

While interrogating the duo, the GRP officials received a call on one of the recovered phones from Ganesh Rebari (32), a resident of Zhaveri Bazaar, who was enquiring about his stolen phone. Rebari had boarded a train from Mira Road and alighted at Dadar station at around 10:15 a.m, during which he had lost his phone. He had not registered a complaint till the time the GRP officials had recovered his phone. Later Rebari was asked to meet the GRP officials at Mahim and a complaint was registered.

According to Rajendra Trivedi, Senior Police Inspector,GRP, Mumbai Central division, “The accused have been arrested and have been booked under Section 379 (Punishment for theft) and Section 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) under the Indian Penal Code. We are investigating the matter.  The two are believed to have past criminals records. They will be produced in court on Tuesday,” he added.
