PUNE: The government railway police (GRP), Pune, has counselled 10 children who had placed iron rods on railway tracks in Pune and adjoining districts in the past 20 days just for “fun”.
Accidents were averted as the train loco pilots spotted the rods and they were removed from tracks, officials said.
The Central Railways’ (CR) authorities found long iron bars placed on railway tracks at Satara, Talegaon Dabhade, Kolhapur district, and on Pune–Solapur tracks.
Police said that the accidents were averted due to the presence of mind shown by the loco pilots.
The CR authorities discussed the issue with the GRP officials and police who then launched a hunt for the suspects. It is not yet clear if the suspects were playing mischief or it was a deliberate attempt to derail the high-speed trains.
During the course of investigation, police realised that the children staying in nearby areas were placing rods on tracks for “fun”.
Police took them to the nearby railway stations and arranged counselling sessions for them. The officials also requested their parents to keep a watch on them.
