GRP suspends cops for inaction in murder

Lucknow: Director General of Police (Railways) Rizwan Ahmed suspended Banda Government Railway Police (GRP) station in charge and two constables for watering down a case of attempt to murder into that of a simple accident after the inquiry into the matter found the three policemen prima-facie guilty.

The action was taken following an inquiry by circle officer GRP Jhansi SS Tevatiya.

On June 11, Omprakash, a resident of Banda was travelling in the general compartment of Mahkaushal Expresss from New Delhi to Jabalpur. The Banda GRP got information that Omprakash had been injured after he fell from the train. But, allegations were made that Omprakash was pushed out of the moving train by fellow passengers.

Banda GRP went with the information that Omprakash fell from the moving train as the compartment was crowded. But, during the inquiry, it was found that Omprakash was travelling with his nephew Jitendra in general compartment on June 11. At around 5 in the morning, about 4 km before Antara, Omprakash was using the wash basin when he dropped water on some of the passengers standing near the wash basin. Irked by this, three to four youths manhandled Omprakash. They threatened and abused him and pushed him out of the moving train. A case was registered at Banda GRP on June 14.

DGP (Railways), finding Banda GRP station in charge, Prem Prakash Singh, and two GRP escorts travelling in the train prima facie guilty, ordered their suspension.
