पूने Pune: Pune rural police have charged Jaipal Yadav, the gateman on duty at level crossing no 10 near Yavat, where a tractor was hit by the Secunderabad-Mumbai Duronto Express on Saturday killing three and injuring 11, for culpable homicide under the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Police have also added relevant sections of the Railway Act against Yadav.
Police Inspector in-charge of Daund police station, Sajan Hankare, said, “We are investigating the reason Yadav did not close the gate when he gave green signal for the train.
Statements of some of the witnesses have been recorded and Yadav is being interrogated.” A holiday magistrate court on Sunday remanded Yadav in police custody till May 9.
The tractor had two trolleys attached to it and was ferrying 20 sugarcane harvesters for work at Khamgaon village, located on the other side of the railway tracks. Two of three people who died were women.
