NEW DELHI: For Railways, Human Resource (HR) is the number one focus area and the organisation’s employees are more important than passengers, Chairman Railway Board Ashwani Lohani said here on Sunday.
Speaking at the All India Railway Safety Seminar of Chief Loco Inspectors here, Mr Lohani said, “For us employee is first”.
He said the organisation of 13 lakh will only flourish when its employees are satisfied and happy. Mr Lohani said it is important that the organisation needs to be sensitive to the issues of the organisation.
There had been visible changes in the Railways and now any employee could approach the senior official. Speaking about loco pilots, Mr Lohani said that the name loco pilot was introduced in 2005 and nothing more was done for them except for change in name. ”We should have taken care of all his needs, but nothing much had been done,” he said.
Talking about duty hours of loco pilots, Mr Lohani said that the issue was due to shortage of staff. There was no recruitment of loco pilots for four years and adhoc recruitment was taking place. “Now we are recruiting loco pilots,” he added.
He said, Railways being such a big organisation employing lakhs of people could never think of having air conditioned running rooms. This was a small issue.
”It is time that these problems are sorted and money will never be a constraint,” Mr Lohani said.
He also said that TTE’s running rooms too needs to be mended.
Praising the gangman and loco pilot, Mr Lohani said that they were the hardest working employees of the Railways. “We are in the right direction and we will find a solution to your problem. Railway at present is in a transformation process,” he said.
Others who spoke were Member (Traction) Railway Board Ghanshyam Singh and DRM RN Singh.
