As many as 600 persons participated in the protest.
The ‘train’ began from the old railway station to Pachalam. P Rajeeve MP inaugurated the function. GCDA chairman N Venugopal and Charles Dias MP were present. Members of the Old Railway Station Vikasana Samithi, which had organised the protest, including scretary M R Rajendran Nair, general convener K P Hariharakumar and joint conveners Kuruvilla Mathews and C G Rajagopal were present.
The functioning of the station, which was a terminus for freight traffic, was halted a few decades back.
However, demands are on to revive the station as a passenger train hub. Recently, the Railways had submitted a proposal of `100 cr to the Railway Board to revive the station.
