Meeting with traders
At a meeting, NVS Reddy, Managing Director of HMRL, had with the Traders’ Joint Action Committee of Sultan Bazaar, in a breakthrough, an agreement on a special package for traders, owners and hawkers was thrashed out. Keeping in view the narrow roads and pedestrian traffic of Sultan Bazaar stretch of corridor-II, road widening will be minimal. The widening will be restricted to 80 feet and 65 feet and no religious or other sensitive structures shall be touched. Reddy said a stretch of about 250 m (about 800 feet) will be developed as a hawkers’ paradise with hawkers’ facilities being designed below the Metro viaduct.
Sky walks planned
They will have platforms measuring 6.6’ x 3.3’ with storage facility and a 5’ of carriageway next to the hawker facility will be paved with cobblestone for shoppers to purchase goods. The HMRL has already constructed a shopping/business complex at a cost of ₹13 crore and it will provide access through sky walks. This unique complex reflects the street scape of Sultan Bazaar vertically with shops and facility for hawkers.
