Hyderabad Metro uses more pre-cast structures to minimise traffic disruptions

Hyderabad (HYB):  Only 40 per cent of the challenges in executing the metro rail project are engineering-related and the rest are non-engineering challenges, according to N.V.S.Reddy, Managing Director, Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd.

Explaining how effective communication strategies, mass plantation drives, involvement of different groups and associations are helping in the implementation of the Metro project, he advised engineers to adopt an interdisciplinary approach and acquire multiple skill-sets to be successful project managers. Inaugurating a 3-day international conference on “Emerging Trends in Civil Engineering” at VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering & Technology, Bachupally, Reddy said 90 per cent of the Hyderabad Metro project structures were converted to “pre-casting” method to reduce traffic management problems during construction in the narrow congested roads.

He mentioned that the design innovations have helped convert the project from a simple transportation engineering project to a multipurpose socio-economic project.
