INDIAN RAILWAYS HELPING HAND FOR KERALA FLOOD RELIEF
Water Specials to Kerala
- Southern Railway has dispatched one water special—7 BRN wagons with sintex tanks from Erode Jn station to Trivandrum
- 10 BRN flat wagons also moved with Sintex water tanks with loading decanting facility to Erode from Tondiarpet, Chennai area. At Erode, arrangement will be made for emergency movement of drinking water by this train to Kerala today.
- In Pune-based coaching siding, 14 tank wagons were filled with potable water and 15 tank wagons of water from Ratlam came to Pune. Thus, a special train of 29 tank wagons of water was despached to Kayamkulam junction on 18.8.2018. This special train will reach Kayamkulam via Daund, Wadi, Renigunta where the Government of Kerala will distribute this water to flood affected people. It is noteworthy that in every tank, 50 thousand litres of water has been filled. Thus, 7 lakh litres in 14 tankers of Pune and 7.5 lakh litres of water in 15 tankers from Ratlam, thus totaling 14.5 lakh litres of water is being transported to Kerala. It is pertinent to note that the Pune Division had sent water trains in the past to the drought-hit Latur through its special efforts
Rail Neer Bottles
As per the directions of Senior Railway Officials, IRCTC has arranged to supply 3 lakh numbers of 1 litters water bottles of Rail Neer to Flood Ravaged Kerala. 1,20,000 bottles from Parassala Plant, Trivandrum, and 1,80,000 bottles from Palur Plant, Tamil Nadu are ready for transportation to Kerala for . Railway Officials at Headquarters and Divisional Levels are coordinating with state Government officials of Kerala for the movement of the water bottles to Kerala. First Lot received from Chennai was handed over to District Administration by Sr DCM Palakkad for further distribution.
