Indian Railways geared up all Machinery to assist stranded people with Passenger Special Trains

CHENNAI/TRIVANDRUM: Trivandrum- Ernakulam section was connected by passenger Special Trains during the flood period. Heavy damages in Aluva- Trissur, Trissur-Shoranur, Kayamkulam-Kottayam- Ernakulam Shoranur-Tirur, Shoranur- Palakkad were attended on war foot basis by Railway team of officials, resuming rail operations within shortest possible time.

Train services in Kayankulam-Kottayam- Ernakulam  and Palakkad-Shoranur-Kozhikkode sections was restored to normalcy on 19thAugust, 2018 by swiftly conducting  repair works  thus connecting Ernakulam by both the routes ie., via Alleppey, and Kottayam.

Special Trains were also run Via Trivandrum Tirunelveli Madurai to Chennai Egmore, Howarah, Gorakpur,Bubanewsar  etc to enable the stranded people of other states to travel.

19 passenger specials and 10 Express specials were run till 19th  August 2018 evening.

The traffic in Aluva- Thrissur, Thrissur-Shoranur  sections was also opened on 20th August 2018 morning. Regular services are being resumed one by one connecting the rakes available at various starting points. More passenger specials planned for operation on 20th August, 2018 (today) are being notified from time to time.

Barring the flood affected areas,  Southern Railway has run 159 Express trains and 11 passenger trains connecting Kerala to the rest of the  sections/states from 16 th to 18th Ausgust,2018.

 45 trains were diverted to enable people to move even when the central Kerala and Parts of Malabar were facing destruction due to heavy flood and breaches.
