New Delhi: Railways have earned Rs 65,354.64 crore during the April-September period as compared to Rs 58,661.79 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 11.41 percent. The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs 40,293.70 crore April-September 2012 to Rs 44,191.92 crore during the corresponding period this year, registering a growth of 9.67 per cent, according to railway ministry data.
The passenger earnings during this six month period were Rs 18,099.83 crore as against Rs 15,582.42 crore during the same period last year, an increase of 16.16 percent. The earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs 1850.22 crore during April-September 2013 compared to Rs 1510.59 crore during the same period last year, an increase of 22.48 percent. The total passengers booked during April–September 2013 were 4257.55 million compared to 4270.09 million during the same period last year. In the suburban sector, 2275.20 million passengers were booked during this period as compared to 2212.06 million in the same period last year, an increase of 2.85 percent. However, in the non-suburban sector, 1982.35 million passengers were booked as against 2058.03 million during the same period last year, showing a decrease of 3.68 percent.
