Indian Railways unveils Upgraded Models of Air Conditioned Coaches

ICF Gives a Fresh Look to LHB Air-Conditioned Coaches. As part of its plans to innovate coach designs, now, ICF (Integral Coach Factory, a production unit under Ministry of Railways) has turned out one LACCN (LHB 3 Tier AC) Coach with continuous windows, by providing additional glasses on vertical pillars. This will provide the Air-conditioned coach an aesthetically pleasing and very good appearance from outside. It has been planned to provide such continuous windows in all AC coaches in a phased manner.

NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Railways has recently introduced new models of air-conditioned (AC) coaches. The ministry shared pictures of coaches on press information bureau (PIB) site. In a statement released by the ministry, the new coaches will have running or continuous glass windows panes of size 1100 mm (L) x 680 mm (H). However, there will be no change in the interior of the coaches that will be maintained as before.

In the new air-conditioned (AC) coaches is there will be vertical pillars have been equipped with additional glasses. The release also stated that the integral coach factory is innovating coach designs to make them look not only good but also sustainable models of excellence.

Currently, the LHB Coaches that have been constructed by the ICF have been equipped with split windows of size 1100 mm (L) x 680 mm (H), the release added.

Black Boxes: Recently, the Indian railways had also unveiled the first batch of smart rail coaches in Rae Bareli city. The smart coaches will have black boxes just like aircraft and this technology is being adopted to bring down the incidents of train accidents. Besides this, smart coaches will have other features such as smart CCTV cameras, passenger information system, infotainment software and wi-fi access. Last year, between April 1, 2017, and March 30 this year, only 73 accidents were recorded, which is 29 per cent less than the 104 accidents that were reported in the year 2016-2017. Earlier, Indian Railways used to record at least 1,000 accidents except for the year 1968-69 when the number of accidents fell to 908 for the first time in many years.

Splendour Tour: The railways are also an 8-day trip on Maharaja Express. The trip is named as The Indian Splendour’ and package is offered at a starting price of $5,980. Passengers availing this trip will be visiting nine Indian cities. Indian and foreigners can avail this package. The cities include Delhi, Agra, Ranthambore, Jaipur, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Balasinor, and Mumbai. The trip will start from October 2018 to April 2019. The Railways currently owns and operates 336 salon cars. Private persons will now be able to book these two-bedroom carriages with an onboard attached, private lounge, kitchen, and bathroom.
