Integrated security at three railway stations soon

Integrated Security System will be commissioned shortly by South Central Railway at Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Tirupati railway stations at a cost of Rs.6.30 Crore.

To enhance passenger comfort, 22 lifts and 14 escalators have been commissioned at 13 stations so far. Besides, 38 lifts and 35 escalators will be installed at 15 stations in the near future.

Speaking after unfurling the national flag at the Railway Sports Complex Grounds in Secunderabad on Thursday, South Central Railway Additional General Manager K.L.Pandey said the train accident rate on SCR declined during the period between April and July this year due to the safety measures taken by the zone.

As many as 171 unmanned level crossings have been removed as part of an action plan which aims to eliminate all of them by 2016 while 32 major stations have been brought under security surveillance with the installation of 430 CCTV cameras.

In the last financial year 2012-13, SCR loaded more than 110 million tonnes of freight and carried 387 millions of originating passengers, with a record earnings of more than Rs 10,000 crore.

The gross earnings for the period April to July 2013 are Rs 3,357 crore which is Rs 158 crore higher than that of last year, posting a healthy growth rate of 5 percent. The zone achieved an originating freight loading of 35.2 MT and carried 127 millions of originating passengers.
