Integrated Ticketing System to be Rolled Out in Mumbai shortly

Good News for Mumbai. With an Integrated Ticket, commuters in Mumbai will be able to travel by any means with just one ticket from now onwards!

MUMBAI: Indian Railways has started working on a pilot project to develop integrated ticketing system for commuters in Mumbai. With this integrated ticket, commuters in Mumbai will be able to travel by any means with just one ticket. It simply means a person can travel in a train, metro, bus, auto or a taxi with the ticket generated from the new integrated ticketing system. Mumbai, the financial capital of the country, has been selected for the first run of mega project.

Under the integrated ticketing system, all public transports like BEST buses, metros, local trains, rickshaws and black-and-yellow taxis will be integrated. Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will be managing the project within Mumbai. “MRVC will present the railways’ perspective to the MMRDA, which is the primary organization for the integrated ticketing system,” Prabhat Sahai, chairman, and MD, MRVC, was quoted as saying.

To implement the integrated ticketing system in Mumbai, officials from Central and Western Railway and Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) have begun brainstorming on the project. BEST, which spearheads bus services across Mumbai city and Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) have agreed for the pilot project. The integrated ticketing system will be developed in two stages. At the initial stage, a special software would be integrated with the existing ticketing system at Mumbai railway stations and Mumbai metros.

The MMRDA will soon invite tenders to execute single ticketing platform. This concept of integrated rail tickets will be rolled out across the India soon based up on the results in Mumbai. If implemented perfectly, this integrated ticketing system will be an extremely benefiting initiative for travellers by Indian Railways.
