Intercity Express Trains not to run till March 17: Northern Railway

LUDHIANA: There is more trouble in store for those commuting by trains in the region as the Northern Railways has announced to cancel two pairs of the intercity express trains on the New-Delhi-Amritsar/Jalandhar section till March 17.

Cancellation and regulation of some trains has been necessitated due to the 45 days traffic block for replacement of washable apron on the platform No. 16 at the New Delhi railway station for creating better infrastructure facilities.

Accordingly, the 14682/14681 Jalandhar City-New Delhi-Jalandhar Intercity Express and the 12459/12460 New Delhi-Amritsar-New Delhi Intercity Express trains will remain cancelled till March 17 with immediate effect.

Further, during the period of the block, 16317 Kanyakumari-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Express, 16687 Mangalore-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Navyug Express, 11449 Jabalpur-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Express, 16031 Chennai Central- Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Andmaan Express and 19803 Kota-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Express trains will be regulated at Hazrat Nizamuddin Station up to 11 pm.

Meanwhile, erratic run of the rail traffic continued in the region with Railways canceling 10 trains while many other long-route trains were running behind schedule. Railways said apart from the two pairs of intercity express trains, 12332 Jammu-Howrah Himgiri Express, 13050 Amritsar-Howrah Express, 14673/74 Jaynagar-Amritsar-Jaynagar Shaheed Express and 15209/10 Saharsa-Amritsar-Saharsa Jansewa Express trains were cancelled for the day.

As if to add to the misery of passengers, many long-route trains, many long-route trains, including 18237 Bilaspur-Amritsar Chhattisgarh Express, 18101 Tatanagar-Jammu Express, 11450 Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Jabalpur Durgawati Express, 15707 Katihar-Amritsar Amrapali Express, 12407 Newjalpaiguri-Amritsar Karambhoomi Express, 12317 Kolkata-Amritsar Akaltakht Express, 15933 Dibrugarh-Amritsar Express, 11057 CST (Mumbai)-Amritsar Express and 12715 Nanded-Amritsar Sachkhand Express trains were running late by two to seven hours.

Summer special train to cope with rush

Northern Railways will run the 04971/72 Udaipur-Jammu Tawi-Udaipur Garib Rath Express, a weekly special train to cope with the heavy rush of passengers, during the summer season. The 04971 special train will leave Udaipur at 1.50 pm on every Friday from April 6 to June 29 and reach Jammu Tawi at 3.20 pm the next day. On the return journey, the 04972 special train will leave Jammu Tawi at 9.30 am on every Thursday from April 5 to June 28 and reach Udaipur at 9.20 am the next day.
