IR Commodity-wise freight income rises by 8.66% in April-May period YoY

Railways carried 171.84 mn tons of commodity-wise freight traffic during April-May 2013 as compared to 164.38 mn tons carried during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 4.54%.

Revenue earnings of the Indian Railways from commodity-wise freight traffic rose by 8.66% to Rs.15324.25 crore during April-May 2013 period, year-on-year basis (y/y), according to the data released by the Ministry of Railways.

The total earnings of Indian Railways from commodity-wise freight traffic stood at Rs.14102.45 crore during the same period last year.

Railways carried 171.84 mn tons of commodity-wise freight traffic during April-May 2013 as compared to 164.38 mn tons carried during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 4.54%.

Out of the total earnings of Rs. 7859.22 crore from commodity-wise freight traffic during the month of May 2013, Rs. 3460.63 crore came from transportation of 43.79 mn tons of coal, followed by Rs. 680.29 crore from 10.54 mn tons of iron ore for exports, steel plants and for other domestic uses.

A revenue of Rs. 761.79 crore obtained by transporting 8.75 mn tons of cement and Rs. 770.75 crore from 5.18 mn tons of food grains.

The Railways generated an income of Rs. 480.98 crore by transporting 3.70 mn tons of petroleum oil and lubricant (POL), Rs. 486.82 crore from 3.00 mn tons of pig iron and finished steel from steel plants and other points.
