Kolkata, May 25 (IANS) Eastern Railway is rolling out a fortnight-long consumer connect programme ‘Passenger and Customer Facilitation Fortnight’ from Tuesday when its senior officials will interact directly with the passengers to understand their problems as well as create awareness about services, a senior official said.
“During this period, a number of passenger-amenity related projects will be inaugurated at the various stations,” ER general manager R.K. Gupta told media persons here at the ER headquarters.
He said ER has undertaken a drive to man the unmanned level crossings in the zone as well as look into hygiene factor at the coaches and stations.
Presently, there are less than 100 unmanned railway level crossings in the zone under ER.
“We will be installing RO water treatment plants in Howrah, Sealdah, Bolpur and several other places,” he said.
This summer, ER has allotted an additional 50,000 berths and 29,000 seats for passengers’ convenience.
“We will also run health camps at remote locations which will be attended by doctors from railway authorities. Roadshows have been planned in our (eastern) zone and we will be holding meetings with the people, state government and all stakeholders in the railways during the fortnight beginning May 26,” said Gupta.
He also said while railways has been taking feedback from passengers over the catering service on the trains, during the consumer connect week, he will also be asking people about their culinary preferences and choices. “I and other senior officers will travel in different trains for a first hand experience of the amenities provided to the passengers and interact with them to know whether they are facing any impediments,” Eastern Railway General Manager R K Gupta told a press conference here today.
“During the fortnight, it has been planned to start interacting with the passengers directly by me, DRMs and other senior officers in all the stations under the jurisdiction of Eastern Railway,” Gupta said, adding the exercise is being done to get a first hand information on how the passengers feel and what their suggestions are for improvement.
“During the period, a number of passenger amenities related projects and works will be inaugurated at the various stations,” he said. As part of the initiative, ER would hold health check-ups in remote areas by its doctors for the benefit of underprivileged people, Gupta added.
A safety awareness campaign vehicle with all safety related awareness booklets and posters was also flagged off by Gupta from the Eastern Railway headquarter at Fairlie Place here.
