Kochi: Aqua marine shade of blue has been selected as the colour to adorn Kochi Metro’s exterior. The metro will also have the same colour for the general seating complemented with a bright lime light-green for its priority seating and overhead hand grabs.
The walls and the ceiling are to have a light grey to balance this colour scheme and will have a textured grey along with a pattern of the main colours for the flooring.
The main colours were selected taking into consideration Kochi’s water bodies and the lush greenery that Kerala embodies.
“Kochi is one of the most beautiful and striking cities port in the world, where land melts into water into land. We have kept this in mind when we decided colours for the metro,” Elias George, MD, KMRL, said.
The first phase of the project, which was to cover a distance of 26 kilometers from Aluva to Pettah, was later extended to Tripunithura following an agitation by locals. The first phase is likely to be commissioned in June next year.
“The colour will prevail on the facade of trains, and might also run as a belt or as waves through coaches that will have stainless-steel body,” said Elias George, the managing director of Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL).
Aquamarine blue will also adorn general seats, while bright lime light-green will be used for priority seats (for handicapped people, senior citizens and women) and for overhead hand grabs.
This was decided on Tuesday following a series of presentations by Tata Elxi, the metro’s consultant for customer experience and branding. The walls and the ceiling will have a light shade of grey to bring about a balance in the colour scheme. Textured grey along with a pattern of the main colours will be used for the floor of coaches. “The main colours were selected considering that Kochi is surrounded by water bodies and the alluring richness of green vegetation in Kerala,” KMRL sources said.
“Kochi is one of the most beautiful port cities in the world, where the land melts into the water. We kept this in mind when we zeroed in on colours for metro coaches,” Mr. George said. “The colour aquamarine blue symbolizes calmness, sophistication and water. It also represents clarity of mind and is considered a soothing shade,” said a press release issued by KMRL.
