iXiGO Releases Indian Rail & Trains Search App, More of the Same

One can use the app to search for trains by destinations or train numbers and can also find train routes & timings, real-time seat availability status for all journey classes, fares and also status.

ixigoTravel planning & search engine iXiGO.com has finally released its trains search app – Indian rail & trains. The app provides real-time information for all Indian Railway trains on Android phones.

The app has been developed completely in house at iXiGO.com.

The app can be used to access information needed to book train tickets, without going through a million web pages. One can use the app to search for trains by destinations or train numbers and can also find train routes & timings, real-time seat availability status for all journey classes, fares and also status.

The app claims to have the information of over 2,000 trains.

iXiGO.com already has apps across various platforms that allow you to search for hotels and flights.

Features of the App

The app allows one to search for trains by typing in your boarding and destination stations or by simply giving the train number. The app has a very nice route map & schedule chart, which allows one to choose the correct trains at the click of a button. One can also check the PNR status.

The Indian rail & train app also has a seat/berth map that provides users a virtual map of the train to help travelers a convenient place on the train.

One can also add trains to Favorites, for easy reference for future trips.

Quick Review

While the app provides almost the same functionality like other apps already present in the Play Store, like eRail.in, what we really like was the user interface. The designers and developers have taken their time to incorporate the Android Holo design guidelines while trying to be different.

We loved the use of colors especially in the train search result as well as in the Seat/berth map.

Results popped up fast which really is the main functionality of the app.

Just like all the other apps present on the Play Store one can only search for information and not book tickets. So you will still have to login to the website or the mobile website to book. The only mobile app which supports booking of tickets is ngpay which has an official partnership with IRCTC.

Considering the hassle it is to book rail tickets online, we hope and pray that third-party apps will soon have the ability to book tickets.

The app is currently available only on Android phones currently and can be downloaded from here.

iXiGO had earlier raised $18.5 million from SAIF Partners & MakeMyTrip.
