Jaipur: It has been a week since the Metro services were launched in the city, and the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) appears to be satisfied with the passengers’ response.
While talking to journalists, NC Goel, chairman and managing director of JMRC, said, “In seven days, we have earned a revenue of more than Rs 5 lakh, which is commendable. Our trains have made 1,009 rounds, out of which 1,000 trains were on time and nine were late.”
Officials said the delay was caused due inexperience of the train operators. “Though the operators have got a proper training, these kinds of hiccups occur every time on duty. Efforts are being made to overcome these problems,” said officials.
Seeing the tremendous response of passengers on weekends, the JMRC has decided to install additional automated fare machines on Saturdays and Sundays. “Passengers can purchase tokens at these counters for the entire route after paying Rs 15,” said officials.
They also said that an American company has expressed interest in constructing the Metro Phase-II proposed from Sitapura to Ambabari on magnetic elevated model.
A meeting with a Malaysian delegation was also held on Tuesday in this regard. To examine the project further, the delegation has asked for the city’s master plan, Metro’s detailed project report (DPR) and traffic studies. Sources in the department said a delegation from China has also been invited to visit Jaipur on June 18.
