Jogeshwari (JOS), Mumbai: The west side of Platform Number 1 at Jogeshwari will be closed for 20 days from Friday to pave the way to enable the extension of the Harbour line track up to Goregaon.
Passengers will have to use the east side of the double discharge platform for trains going north.
The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation has plans to complete the Harbour line extension by June. The project involves laying of tracks on the west side of the Western Railway (WR) corridor.
“It has been decided to close the west side of Platform No 1 at Jogeshwari railway station from 9 pm on March 21, 2014, for 20 days for the widening of Platform Numbers 1 and 2,” a WR spokespersons said.
A double discharge platform is one where passengers can alight or board a train from both sides, which essentially means it two structures on either side of the track.
“During the block, Platform Numbers 1 and 2 will be widened,” the WR official said. “The structure is six metres wide and will be made eight metres wide.”
Commuters will be able to access the new Harbour line platforms from subways.
