Kanpur Railway employee’s suicide – FIR against official for harassment

Kanpur Central Jn (CNB): The Government Railway Police (GRP) had registered a case against a senior railway official for harassing a subordinate following which he had committed suicide on Tuesday. The incident had taken place at Kanpur Central railway station. The GRP had recovered a suicide note. It mentioned charges of harassment against Sr DME/O&F/ALD Mr.V.K.Gautam posted in Allahabad.

The GRP inspector said that a case has been registered against the senior railway official and investigations are underway. Jai Chandra Jaiswal (50), posted as loco inspector had been transferred to Kanpur sometime back. He had been promoted recently. On Tuesday, Jaiswal jumped in front of a goods train coming on the loop line and ended his life. The GRP recovered a suicide note but could not lodge a report as the family members of Jai Chandra Jaiswal by then had not registered the complaint.

Employee unions and sources in GRP informed that initially the senior railway officials tried to hush up the matter but after protests from the family members, the GRP registered a case against Gautam.
