Kanyakumari: The Kanyakumari District Railway User’s Association (KDRUA) has urged the officials of Southern Railway to hand over the details required for the land acquisition for the expansion programmes here as well as Kanyakumari railway station to the district administration in the best interests of the people of the district.
According to the secretary of KDRUA, P. Edward Jeni, as per the communication from Southern Railway, it has planned to construct two additional 24 coach platforms, two18 coach platforms and additional stabling lines near the shunting neck at Nagercoil junction in 2010.
However, three years have passed since this communication was received from Southern Railway and all that Nagercoil got was one additional 21 coach platform.
Though traffic has increased in Nagercoil and Kanyakumari railway stations, infrastructure hasn’t grown to meet the increased traffic.
Unless and until Nagercoil junction was expanded, frequent delays or cancellation of train services would be common at Nagercoil and Kanyakumari.
Under the leadership of Shri Edward Jeni, Kanyakumari District Railway User’s Association (KKDRUA) has been working for the social cause of improving the passenger amenities and developments in and around the Railway areas of the world famous tourist destination i.e. Kanyakumari. KKDRUA has also contributed for the safety of women passengers in Kanyakumari and adjoining Railway stations earlier.
