Kathiar circle’s CRS inspects Siliguri Railway station

Katihar (KIR): Commissioner of railway safety (CRS) Kathiar circle, Mohammad Sakib, inspected the Siliguri Junction Railway station on Wednesday. He was present at the station for over an hour where he checked the platform, various equipment and also spoke to employees working in the division.

Sources said Sakib was not happy with officers of the signal and telecommunication department and the railway tracks being used as a parking lot by the commuters. Upon inspection, he rapped the department officials and asked them to better their working style. He especially asked the station master to clear the tracks from private cars and two-wheelers and stop allowing entry of such vehicles.

He also directed the station master to inspect proper documentation of shops that being run in the station premise and avoid encroachment. He also inspected a coach of  the daily express and found some technical glitches with the seats and slider gates. He asked the railway officials to attend to them at the earliest.

Speaking to media, Sakib said the Siliguri-Darjeeling DHR stations highly suffer from encroachment in the railway tracks, as people park their vehicles near it, and remove it only when they hear a train entering the platform. It is learnt that the trains have often been made to wait while they haul their parked vehicles. I have asked the officials to fasten the situation and prevent such practices immediately, said the Commissioner.

Meanwhile, keeping in view of the safety of the passengers, a luggage scanner, CCTV, and a metal scanner has been made available at the entrance gate of the railway station, he added.
