Kenyans booked for assaulting Railway cop at Byculla

Mumbai: The Mumbai Government Railway Police on Monday booked two Kenyan nationals for allegedly assaulting a GRP constable on duty at Byculla station. The GRP constable was beaten up when he tried to intervene in a fight in which the Kenyan’s were involved. The CST GRP has launched a probe into the case.

According to Mumbai GRP, the Kenyan nationals, identified as Jeffry Kiama Kimoyu and Tony Shakha Zulu, arrived at platform number 2/3 on Sunday night after consuming alcohol. “Both of them were sitting on a bench till 1.30am,” said Rupali Ambure, deputy commissioner of police (GRP). “One of them then realised that his mobile phone was missing. They went to the canteen on the platform to enquire about it.”

However, when the canteen staff did not answer their queries, the inebriated Kenyans allegedly slapped one of them. “All the other canteen workers then started beating them up,” said Ambure. “When GRP constable Prakash Kumbhar rushed to the spot and tried to intervene, one of the Kenyans snatched his stick and assaulted him.”

Later, the GRP staff managed to get both the Kenyans and the canteen staff to CST. A case was then registered on the complaint of the injured constable.
