Kidnapped contractor rescued, four arrested

LUCKNOW: The railway contractor who was abducted from Purania crossing on Thursday evening was rescued by police on Saturday. The four abductors were arrested and were sent to jail. Ravi Ranjan, the victim had been kidnapped by Kanpur residents Ram VishalYadav, Pawan Kumar, Krishna Sharma and Agra resident Narendra Sharma. Ravi was abducted in Aliganj area and was dragged inside a car. The group was arrested on Saturday morning from Sitapur Road at the stretch located close to Seva hospital.

Lawyers stage protest: A large group of lawyers staged a protest on Mahatma Gandhi Marg opposite divisional commissioner’s office on Saturday noon against Talkatora police. A 72-year-old lawyer Jawaharlal Gupta had been allegedly hacked to death by his relative on late Friday night. Gupta was involved in a property dispute with his brother-in-law Krishna Prakash Gupta for past few months. Talkatora police was asked to take action against the accused but following police inaction the lawyers kept his body on the road and demanded action against V C Mishra, in charge of Talkatora police station. Senior officials including district magistrate and senior superintendent of police rushed to the spot to pacify the agitating lawyers. Deceased was a resident of Ashraf Nagar area in Rajajipuram.

12 injured in accident: A road accident in Vibhuti Khand area caused serious injuries to 12 persons. Driver of an SUV ferrying passengers from Kanpur to Faizabad to attend a wedding, hit another SUV parked on the wrong side on Shaheed Path on Saturday morning.The impact of collision was high and those sitting in Chevrolet Tavera and Toyota Qualis sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital.
