Kochi: The work of the Kochi Metro Rail project, the foundation stone for which was laid by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will commence by June 7, Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Sunday said.
The agreement with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation for this would be inked soon, Chandy said after opening the Salim Rajan road overbridge, the first project underatkenby the DMRC as part of the Kochi metro’s preparatory works.
About 52 acre of land had already been acquired for the project, he said.
The 425 metre long two lane bridge that links Salim Rajan road near Gandhinagar to Rajaji road near KSRTC bus stand was completed as per deadline in 15 months.
The overbridge costing Rs 38 crore, is expected to ease the severe traffic bottlenecks in the south overbridge in the city.
