Thiruvananthapuram (TVC): Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee President V M Sudheeran today opined that Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and metroman E Sreedharan should be entrusted with the task of construction of the proposed Light Metro Project in the state. Seeking to retain E Sreedharan, Principal Advisor to DMRC, at the helm of Light Metro projects in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode, KPCC President V.M.Sudheeran wrote a letter to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Thursday. It came in the wake of some suggestions which cropped up in the KPCC executive meet.
In the letter, the KPCC president said that many PPP projects in various other states could not be materialised. ‘’It is learnt that the projects which were designed in the PPP model such as Delhi International Airport Metro Line, Hyderabad Metro, Mumbai Metro Line-1 and Mumbai Metro Line-2 were a failure. Out of these, only Mumbai Metro Line-2 could be materialised. But its work got delayed and cost of the project doubled. Not only that, the investors in the PPP model in these projects later approached the court and got the metro fares doubled,’’ Sudheeran said in his letter. Hence, the state government should implement the light metro project in co-ordination with the Union Government, Sudheeraan said. ‘’DMRC which always strive to implement projects in a time-bound manner should be entrusted with the prime responsibility of the project,’’ the letter added.
