Dornakal Jn (DKJ): A Utility Traction Vehicle (UTV) used for repairing railway tracks hit the Tirupati-Adilabad Krishna Express while it was stationed at Chintalapalli railway station on Wednesday afternoon.
There were no casualties but the drivers of the technical van – Saraiah and Bhupal suffered minor injuries. The sudden jolt also resulted in minor bruises to passengers in the Krishna express but none complained officially.
According to Geesukonda inspector of police, P Srinivas, the UTV was engaged in repairing and replacing the old tracks was let onto the main track by mistake. It came in the reverse and hit the Krishna express which was behind.
Special Correspondent from Hyderabad adds: As television channels ran scrolls declaring that 25 people were injured, railway officials here began calling up their counterparts at Warangal and Chintalapalli stations and established that there were no casualties. The Divisional Railway Manager will launch a departmental enquiry to establish the cause of the mishap, it is learnt. Meanwhile, senior safety officials from the Zonal Headquarters here left for Chintalapalli to begin an inquiry why the block was not given for the UTV to slip into the loopline.
