Lal Kuan (LKU): Lal Kuan railway station on the Izzatnagar Division of North Eastern Railway in Nainital district is all set to become a gateway to the Kumaon region. The station will witness a massive makeover and will soon have 550mt long platform, a hi-tech running line, 460mt pit line, a fuel pump house for refilling engines and a food court for passengers.
“The work is already in progress and we are monitoring it constantly. The project is likely to be completed soon,” said Chandra Mohan Jindal, Divisional Railway Manager, Izzatnagar Division of North Eastern Railway.
Currently, about 27 trains from Delhi, Moradabad, Jaisalmer and Jammu arrive here. Station staff said that nine trains to various parts of the country originate from here.
The station will also get new staff quarters to house the people working here. New water tanks will be set up in these quarters to ensure 24×7 supply. The pit line will enable the washing of 20 railway coaches which will help in keeping the trains originating from here clean, said a railway official.
The new platform will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities like purified drinking water, comfortable benches, fans, wheelchair for the differently abled and elderly, and charging points for laptops and mobile phones.
Officials said that the work for this project started in January. “It’s really good that these facilities will be available to passengers,” said Dinesh Joshi, a local resident.
At present, there are three major railway stations in Kumaon region which include stations at Kathgodam, Nainital and Rudrapur.
