Left Front to protest against Metro Railway fare hike

Protesting against the Kolkata Metro fare hike, West Bengal Left Front today said they will stage protest rallies and write to the Centre opposing the hike.

“There has been an excessive hike in Metro fares. We will protest against it. And we will also consider writing to the Railway Ministry registering our protest,” Left Front chairman Biman Bose said.

Asked about the Left’s delay in deciding to hit the streets against the fare hike when the Trinamool had already done it on October 10, Bose said, “We know they have staged a protest, but the fact is, if we had asked permission to hold a protest rally against the hike, then the same Trinamool-led state government wouldn’t have allowed us.”

Commenting on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s Durga Puja greetings to Bose, he said, “Yes, I have received a Durga Puja and Bijoya greetings from her and will surely reciprocate.”

Meanwhile, Forward Bloc state secretary Ashok Ghosh has already replied to Banerjee, who had sent him Puja greetings.

The exchange of Puja greetings comes at a time when the state’s politics has been marred by personal attacks and mudslinging between the Left Front and Trinamool.
