The big cat was hunting sheep when the accident occurred
Sompeta (SPT): As many as 350 sheep and one leopard were run over by a train near Anantapuram of Sompeta mandal in the early hours of Wednesday.
According to locals, the villagers took the sheep on Tuesday night to the nearby agricultural fields as their dung was useful for cultivation.
All of a sudden, a leopard came from Mahendra Giri Hills and attacked the sheep, causing panic among them.
Many of them ran towards the railway track with the leopard in hot pursuit.
They met the gory end after being hit by a train.
Senior Forest and Revenue officials inspected the spot and interacted with railway officials and villagers to gather more information about the incident.
The officials asked the locals not to keep sheep in the fields at night as it would attract predators.
