Lucknow (LKO): The Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) said problem of slow traffic movement and congestion on Kanpur Road because of construction will last only till Shaheed Path turn as all heavy vehicles will be diverted from there.
Currently the left-side traffic going towards airport is being diverted to the right side of the road at Transport Nagar on about 400 metre stretch from 11pm to 6am. LMRC said the diversion of traffic will continue for next 8 months to facilitate erection of U-Girders concrete structures to support metro track on pillars.
It said construction would only be carried out during night hours to avoid inconvenience. Chief secretary while reviewing the project on Monday said least difficulties should be faced by the common man while commuting on Kanpur Road during the project’s construction. He also asked metro officials to identify all alternative routes to help people move conveniently during the construction phase.
Meanwhile, metro officials have begun soil testing of the underground stretch from Hazratganj to Charbagh (about 3.5km). They said soil testing will continue for a month after which they will start freezing the metro alignment.
LMRC started functioning from a new administrative building located at Vipin Khand, Gomtinagar from Monday. Its previous office at Janpath had become congested because of the induction of new engineers and staff over past few months. “Considering the strict time-frame in which LMRC has to deliver metro project in an efficient manner, the state government has allotted us a new four-storey administrative building.
