लखनऊ Lucknow (LKO): To make pillars on Kanpur Road from Transport Nagar to Charbagh railway station for metro-rail project, Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation has sought permission from the traffic police to divert route of intercity buses going towards Alambagh bus station via Amar Shaheed Path. This route diversion has to take place from Transport Nagar.
The priority section of 8 km on which metro pillars have to be constructed begins from Transport Nagar and goes up to Krishna Nagar, Singar Nagar, Alambagh, Alambagh Bus Station, Mawaiya, Durgapuri and then Charbagh. During construction, Larsen and Toubro (L&T) will barricade 9 km road width in the centre, leaving just one or two lanes for traffic movement.
LMRC claims that movement of heavy buses on barricaded route will provide too little space for smaller vehicles like cars and two wheelers. Hence it has asked for suggestions from traffic police to divert intercity buses via Shaheed Path. Metro officials have suggested two alternative routes- one from Shaheed Path to Bijnor Road and Jail Road which finally terminates into Alambagh Marg and the other route is through Cariappa Road to connect with the bus station.
During site inspection LMRC found that a little ahead of Krishna Nagar, median on Kanpur Road is deviated on one side dissecting the road unequally. Officials said, “The road near Krishna Nagar divides unequally into 3 lane and 4 lane on either side. Hence the position of median is not central. This would pose problems for constructing pillars in the middle. Either we would make a new median at centre or would have to divert the traffic.”
LMRC will soon seek permission from PWD for shifting the median of road. Other big problem is of vehicle encroachment on roadside which leaves too little way for traffic movement. LMRC has sought help from traffic police to remove illegal parking on the road. After barricading 10 metre road in the centre, both way traffic will be left to use one lane each.
In the first phase, L&T would begin building pillars from Transport to Krishna Nagar as the road is broad enough to make way for two lane traffic even after barricading. It doesn’t require much of utility transfers except for electric poles in the centre which have to be relocated on roadsides. Constructions’ another requirement is to demolish Singar Nagar Chouraha and install traffic light instead. Officials said, “The entire rush coming from Transport Nagar to Alambagh witnesses a dead slow speed at Singar Nagar because of the awkwardly placed Chouraha”
