Ludhiana-Chandigarh section unfriendly towards environment

It took the Railways 15 years to complete the Ludhiana-Chandigarh track but between Sanehwal and Morinda, there’s not a tree planted on either side of it. How many trees were cut for laying this line is anybody’s guess. With a little advance planning, the track could have been greener and the Railways could have contributed immensely to the environment by motivating its staff to grow trees on the vast land available to it. Only one train, Amritsar-Chandigarh Superfast, runs on the new track. After attending to it, the staff has little else to do. Local trains should be run on the track to harness the revenue potential of the area.
