Maha MPs demand additional trains, doubling of tracks

पुणे Pune: The Members of Parliament (MPs) from seven Lok Sabha constituencies in western and central Maharashtra and Marathwada demanded for augmentation of rail infrastructure, doubling of tracks and additional trains ahead of the forthcoming railway budget.

The MPs put forth their wish lists at a meeting conducted in the presence of general manager of central railway S K Sood here at divisional railway office. MPs from Baramati, Ahmednagar, Latur, Mhada, Satara, Sangli and Shirdi submitted memorandums to the general manager.

The MPs said that the railway authorities should improve infrastructure and complete pending projects within a set time frame. They said that the existing trains were not enough to cater the increasing passenger volume and the administration needs to run more trains with better frequencies.

Leading demands included doubling of Pune-Kolhapur, Daund-Manmad and Daund-Solapur tracks and running of trains between Pune-Latur and Pune-Kolhapur.

Dilip Gandhi of Ahmednagar asked about the progress of previous works and the status on survey of Kalyan-Ahmednagar line, Ahmednagar-Beed-Parali line and stoppages of Maharashtra express at Rahuri and Shrigonda.

Latur MP Sunil Gaikwad demanded for Latur-Pune Express and doubling of Daund-Solapur line and provision of more passenger amenities at Latur station. Sadashiv Lokhande MP from Shirdi wanted the doubling of Daund-Manmad section because of the Kumbh Mela.

Baramati MP Supriya Sule said that administration should show leniency when removing encroachment on railway land at Daund. Mhada MP Vijaysinh Mohite Patil demanded for speedy work on Lonand-Phaltan new line, bridge at Wathar and Kurudwadi wagaon repairing unit.

Sartara MP Udayanraje Bhosale pushed for frequent communication between MPs and the railway administration. He expressed a need for Karad-Chiplun track to connect western Maharashtra to Konkan railway besides doubling of Pune-Kolhapur and modernization of Satara station. Sanjay Patil of Sangli constituency demanded for improvements at Miraj, Sangli and Kirloskarwadi Stations and extension of line Latur-Parli.
