MahaMetro’s Swargate-Katraj tricky alignment affects project extension report

PUNE: The detailed project report (DPR) of the Metro’s Swargate-Katraj extension has run into a delay as the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro) is working on a challenging part of the route alignment.

An official said they were studying suggestions on various parameters — footfall, project cost, funding and financial viability.

MahaMetro had started work on the DPR after Pune Municipal Corporation gave its nod last year.

Officials said they have completed technical studies of the route, including a drone survey. “We are continuously working on different aspects to make the DPR comprehensive. We found a sharp elevation towards Katraj, which is a challenge while preparing the report. We are also considering the existing road infrastructure between Swargate and Katraj, the use of public transport by commuters, probable obstacles and vacant spaces to make the route financially viable,” an official said.

MahaMetro’s advisory committee will meet next week to discuss the progress of the DPR and review the work done so far.
