Pune: Pedestrians First, a NGO working for sustainable public transport and issues concerning safety of pedestrians, has requested the union ministry of urban development that there should be two separate detailed project reports (DPRs) for the two metro corridors.
The NGO, in an email sent to the ministry, pointed out that the corridor one (PCMC – Swargate) is partly in Pune Municipal Corporation area and partly in Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation area. Similarly, corridor two (Vanaz – Ramwadi) is fully in Pune Municipal Corporation area.
“Logically there should have been two separate DPRs for the above two corridors. However a common DPR has been prepared”, Pedestrians First said.
Considering the fact that there are serious issues for the second corridor (Vanaz -Ramwadi) needing reworking of the plan, both the corridors would get stalled if the common DPR is not approved. If the common DPR is approved as it is and work started accordingly, it may prove disastrous for the city if later on these issues fatally jeopardize the metro project in the implementation stage, convener of Pedestrians First, Prashant Inamdar said.
Plan for the PCMC-Swargate corridor may be cleared for implementation and reworking of the plan for corridor 2 may be allowed, Pedestrians First said.
