Manipur CM condemns attacks on railway workers

IMPHAL: Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh on Saturday strongly condemned the bomb blast and suspected shell attacks on the Imphal-Jiribam rail line project construction work by M/S Coastal Projects Ltd.

The bomb blast at the Railway project took place on September 29 injuring four workers while a shell attack came on October 6 injuring seven other workers.

Terming the incidents ‘inhuman and cowardly act’, the Chief Minister in a press release said, “The government has viewed this attack on the workers very seriously and those responsible for this criminal action will not be spared and taken to task as per the law of the land at the earliest”.

The government also assured the Railway authorities, project implementing agencies, construction agencies and workers that adequate security will be provided to ensure the smooth implementation of the railway project. Besides, the State authority has also announced financial assistance of Rs 50,000 per person for grievous injury and Rs 10,000 per person for simple injury.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam on Saturday strongly condemned the bomb attack at the Autonomous District Council (ADC) Bhavan at Sangakpham in Imphal.

Suspected armed militants exploded a bomb believed to be an Improvised Explosive Device near the quarters of Ukhrul ADC chairman John Raleng within the ADC Bhavan around 3.50 pm on Friday. Though there was no report of any casualty, the explosion had damaged nearby walls, doors and windows. No armed group has claimed responsibilities for the incidents so far.
