GANDHINAGAR: Manjula Subramaniam, former Chief Secretary and Chief Vigilance Commissioner of Gujarat, has been appointed Chairman of the Metro Link Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (MEGA) company and I.P.Gautam, former Ahmedabad Municipal Commissioner and Principal Secretary with the urban development and urban housing department, has been appointed as its Executive Vice-Chairman.
The state government has also appointed Vijay Nehra, joint secretary (law and order) with the home department and Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the MEGA company. Nehra has been relieved of his charge at home the department while he continues to be with the CMO.
Bureaucrat-turned-entrepreneur Sanjay Gupta, who was the first executive chairman of MEGA, resigned last month after some differences with government officials and ministers.
Gautam has a proven record of executing several major infrastructure projects such as BRTS and Sabarmati Riverfront projects. Nehra is the youngest officer to be given the key post of CEO of such a major infrastructure project. The two face the major challenge of putting the Rs.22,000 Crore Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro Rail project on track.
While Gautam took charge on Friday, Nehra will do so on Monday. Subramaniam is likely to take charge next week.
