राजखर्सवान Rajkharsawan Jn. (RKSN): The South Eastern Railway on Monday kicked off a massive maintenance and track-repairing work near Rajkharsawan, badly disrupting train services on Tata-Chakradharpur-Rourkela section.
According to sources, the repair work — usually referred to as non-interlocking — for which the announcement was made well in advance will end on September 16. As a result, the ordeal that passengers had to face on Day One will continue for a week.
Railway officials at Tatanagar said maintenance and repair work would compel several trains, including Howrah-Barbil Janshatabdi Express, Tata-Gua and Tata-Barbil passengers, to take diversions.
The diversions will eventually delay several trains passing through this section.
“Several passenger trains and a few mail and express ones running on the Chakradharpur-Rourkela section were running late today (Monday) by more than one hour. Most will continue to run behind schedule till September 16,” said Awtar Singh, the station manager of Tatanagar.
However, Singh maintained that no train would be cancelled or short-terminated due to the non-interlocking work.
He added that the services would normalise as soon as repairs were over.
“We are taking all necessary steps so that passengers do not face any inconvenience,” he claimed.
A railway official said that an additional ticket counter had been opened at Tatanagar for refunds.
“Passengers can seek ticket refund if their trains are delayed by over three hours. The counter will be functional till the situation gets back to normal,” he added.
Though the railways claimed to have announced the maintenance work and possible disruptions in services weeks ago, passengers were clueless on Monday.
Officials at the enquiry office had a tough time answering their queries.
“Enquiries for trains have been pouring in since morning. Another official had to be deputed at the counter to take care of things,” said one.
