Mr.Arunendra Kumar takes over additional charge of Chairman, Railway Board

s2013050146968New Delhi, June 30:  Ministry of Railways gave temporary additional charge of the post of Chairman of Railway Board to Mr.Arunendra Kumar IRSME, currently Member Mechanical (ME), in place of Vinay Mittal, who superannuated today.

Top Railway Board sources told that Mr.Kumar will continue to hold the post of Member Mechanical also and his appointment will come into effect from 1st July, 2013.

Prior to his current portfolio at Railway Board, Mr.Arunendra Kumar was General Manager, South East Central Railway (SECR), Headquartered at Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh.

An officer belonging to 1976 batch of Indian Railways Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME) (Special Class Railway Apprentice Examination 1971), Shri Arunendra Kumar has been in charge of maintenance of a variety of locomotives, coaches and wagons over a career of more than 35 years both in Workshops and open line. He has several innovations to his credit in the area of locomotive and coaching maintenance. He has displayed great leadership qualities and managerial skills which has enabled him to deliver results in crisis situations.

As General Manager, SECR, Shri Kumar managed the heaviest freight operation in the Country. As Divisional Railway Manager, Mumbai Central he successfully managed maintenance and operation of all trains and infrastructure over Mumbai Division.

Shri Kumar has contributed significantly in various policy formulation at Railway Board Level while working as Advisor (CC) & Additional Member Production unit. He has attended advanced management and training programmes at Paris, Germany, South Korea, China, Switzerland, Canada, Namibia.

Shri Kumar is an outstanding athlete and excellent player of Badminton. Shri Kumar has featured on National Geographic Channel in the serial “Seven Mega Cities of the World” and holds a record of longest Live TV Interview by a Railway Officer on National TV Channel.

Other Appointments

Member Electrical Kul Bhushan has been given additional charge of Member Traffic, which post has been lying vacant for some time now. Mr. Mittal looked after it till his retirement.  Mr.R.Kashyap, Additional Member (Budget) will now officiate as Finance Commissioner.Railway Board.  Subodh Jain, Member-Engineering, is already holding additional charge for Member-Staff.

Sources also said Eastern Railways General Manager Mr.G.C.Aggarwal had been given the additional responsibility as General Manager, South Eastern Railway, which is also headquartered in Kolkata.

Similarly, Southern Railways General Manager Mr.Rakesh Mishra has been given additional responsibility of General Manager of Integral Coal Factory, Perambur, Chennai.
