Metro Rail works lead to traffic mayhem at Jubilee Bus Stand in Secunderabad

सिकंदराबाद Secunderabad (SC): With earth excavation work going on at Jubilee Bus Station (JBS)-YMCA junction for the metro rail project, traffic on the Rajiv Rahadari (Secunderabad Club-Patny) has become chaotic during rush hours.

On Thursday morning, a ready-mix vehicle, which came to dump cement-concrete mix for the elevated pillars, was stranded in front of JBS for an hour, triggering major traffic snarls and inconveniencing office-goers. At the same time, district-bound RTC buses exiting JBS added to the congestion.

Barricades have been put up in front of JBS in view of the ongoing earth excavation works.

“There is no alternate route to divert traffic. We can’t prevent district buses from either entering or exiting JBS. Commuters have no option but to bear with the problem for some more weeks,” Marredpally traffic police station inspector K Chandrasekhara Reddy told. The situation would only get worse once work begins between Picket Garden and YMCA junction as the road width there is just 40 feet. “We are yet to take a decision on regulating traffic on this stretch,” the inspector said.

As per the agreement between Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) and HMRL-L&T, the central median streetlights have to be shifted by the HMRL on the stretch between SCB check-post and YMCA junction. When contacted, APSRTC regional manager, Secunderabad region, G Satyanarayana, said, “We have not received specific instructions from HMRL-L&T regarding diversion of RTC buses. Around 900 city services (buses) are plying between Secunderabad Railway Station and Bolarum, Alwal and other surrounding areas en route Parade Grounds, JBS, Karkhana and Trimulgherry every day.”
