Ahmedabad: Amdavadis would have to wait at least till August 2017 for the travelling experience in the Metro. According to the Metrolink Express for Gandhinagar & Ahmedabad (MEGA), a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) has been set up by the state government to execute the work.
The first phase of project will commence the operations in August 2017. Official communiqué issued by the MEGA on July 29, said, that the SPV has started having technical discussions with the Research, Design & Standards Organization (RDSO) over the schedule of dimensions (SoD) in connection with the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar metro project. RDSO examines the design and safety aspects for all the metro projects across the country.
After that, final safety certification is required by the Commissioner of Railway Safety. Core infrastructure work will begin in October 2013 and the first phase of project will be functional in August 2017. The second phase will be fully operational in March 2021.
