Miraculous escape for youth left to die on tracks – Life saved due to late running of train

MUMBAI: A 20-year-old waiter was allegedly tied to a railway track at Boisar and left to die by his five cousins on Monday night. A delayed train and a passerby who heard the victim scream saved his life. The victim, Pradip Yadav, who works as a waiter at hotel Sarovar in Boisar MIDC, has a property dispute with his cousins, said the police.

On Monday night, they kidnapped Pradip in an SUV. They assaulted him before taking him to the railway tracks. They tied him to the tracks, with his head on the rail and fled the spot.

Pradip screamed for help and a passerby came to his rescue. The man took him to the Boisar MIDC police station.

In his statement, Pradip said that his brothers were in a dispute with him over a piece of land in their hometown in Allahabad. The brothers, he alleged, had threatened to kill him if he did not withdraw from the property matter. The police on Tuesday arrested his cousins Dinesh Yadav (20) and Chandrabali Yadav (22) from Boisar. The three other cousins are absconding. The accused told the police that they had tied Pradip to the tracks so that his death would look like a run-over case, said PSI Vishwas Patil. Charges of attempt to murder (section 307), kidnapping (354) and rioting (143, 145,147 of the IPC ) have been slapped on them. Dinesh and Chandrabali have been remanded in police custody till October 11.
